Lavallee's Life Lessons

CLARITY IS POWER!

Simply meaning, the clearer we are on our goals and desired outcomes, the greater our chances of success and achievement. Decide what you want and go for it.

Why is clarity so powerful?

Because it motivates you to take action. When you know what you want, it sparks you to take action in the direction of your dreams. Action always creates motivation.

Once we take action, motivation is soon to follow.

The more action you take...the more motivated you will be.

Once you have decided exactly what you want...it is actually quite easy to figure out how to get it. Most people tend to lack clarity and have very foggy goals or wander their way through life daydreaming and lack real direction.

This is why we encourage everyone to develop S.M.A.R.T. goals in all areas.

Martial Arts training, and life, is so much more fun and exciting when you have exciting and specific goals that you are aiming for.

Climbing the ranks, learning, training and making positive progress in your journey to become a great Black Belt Champion is an extremely motivating process. Practicing and mastering your skills, training hard and getting yourself into your best shape ever, has a very positive impact on all areas of your life. It creates a tremendous energy for excellence.

Once you have clarity with your goals and you have very specific targets to aim for, you must do everything possible to keep these goals in the forefront of your mind. One way to do this is to write and re-write your goals.

You must literally eat, live and breathe your goals until you are doing everything possible to turn your dreams into a reality. Imagine every time you enter the dojo, you are highly motivated and ultra focused to train. Ready to take action toward improving your mind, body and spirit. Hungry for even more Martial Arts progress & growth!

CLARITY IS POWER! Think about your goals as a Black belt Champion, develop and create a clear vision of your short term goals, set some targets for the next 30-60-90 days... then use them as stepping stones to your longer term goals and objectives.

Train and condition yourself to be your best until you become the best...

Ultimate Black Belt Champion you can be.

Eliminate Diet Soda From Your Diet

By Jon Herring

If you were to ask 1,000 people why they drink diet soda and other drinks with artificial sweeteners, I expect the vast majority (if not all) would tell you it's because they are "watching their weight" and these products have no calories.

While it is true that diet sodas have no calories, it has never been proven that they help with weight loss. In fact, as I have reported in this space before, many studies have clearly shown that diet soda may do the exact opposite: make people gain weight.

Recently, the University of Texas, presented research data to the American Diabetes Association on soda consumption. "What we saw was that the more diet sodas a person drinks, the more weight they were likely to gain." In a CBS news article, nutritionist Melanie Rogers describes the same findings in her work with obese patients.

There are several theories as to why this is the case. Some think it is psychological - that diet soda drinkers eat more because they feel they can "spare" the extra calories. Others point to the fact that artificially sweetened drinks tend to increase the appetite unnaturally. And many believe it could be because aspartame and sucralose disrupt insulin function.

One thing we know for sure is that these products can be harmful to your health. So whether or not you're trying to lose weight, my advice is to avoid artificial sweeteners and "diet drinks" entirely.

For a healthier alternative, mix an ounce or two of fruit juice (or, even better, low-sugar fruit-juice concentrate, which you can find at just about any health food store) with sparkling water. To make it a bit sweeter, add a few drops of all-natural stevia.

How would you score Round 1 for 2007?

I asked this question to our Mentoring group in an e-mail that went out last Friday.

As an active Martial Arts athlete, how would you score your Round 1 for 2007?

Have you stuck to your training schedule? How's your nutrition plan? Are you getting in enough fitness and cardio workouts? How about your skill level? What's skills are you focusing on the most? Are you keeping your goals and objectives inyaface???

It is so easy to make excuses for missing a workout or training session. Most of us are great at justifying things and can actually convince ourselves that it's okay.

It's not OKAY! You must make time for yourself. Time to train, time to study, time to grow. If that means you have to get up a little earlier, then do it. GOYA=>Get off your ass!

I only share with you the exact things I tell myself. There are days I force myself to get up and get moving. It doesn't always feel great in the moment, however, it always feel great after doing it.

Be honest with yourself...are you starting your year off better than last year?

If you want this to be your best year ever...you must be your best and give your best.

It's been my experience that whenever my training and Martial Arts is going extremely well, everything else in my life goes well also. That is not to say that we can spend all our time training and ignore all other responsibilities.

It means that consistent and progressive training should compliment your life and not consume it. On the same regard, we should take time everyday to train and improve our mind, body and spirit.

If we fail to dedicate enough time for our own progress and growth, we risk losing that edge that allows us to be a Model of Excellence to our followers.

Let's team up to make it another great week...

Osu,
Kyoshi
