Goals we Set=>Are Goals we Get 2008
Greetings Team,
I hope your first week of the New Year was exciting and filled with energy and excitement.
The New Year is officially here and most people have high hopes and dreams to see it be their best year ever. You and I are no different than most people when it comes to wishing for more and wanting for a better life.
This is also a great time of year to put your thoughts, dreams and wishes on paper.
My encouragement is to complete your WISHLIST now versus later.
It's called a WISHLIST because that's exactly what it is, a list of wishes, hopes and dreams.
Brian Tracy refers to the magic wand technique. If you had a magic wand in your hand and could create the perfect life for yourself in the next 3-5 years... what would it look like?
Where would you be living? What would you be doing? What kind of shape would you be in?
What Martial Art skills would you possess? How much money would you have?
Where would you vacation with your family and friends?
Writing down your wishes and dreams is a great exercise. It's a lot of fun and it helps you to start thinking about the goals that will move you in the direction of your dreams.
The next step is to create your GOALS LIST for 2008.
These are goals that you want to achieve in the next 6-12 months.
Experts agree the moment you take action on your dreams, you have begun the process of Goal Achievement. The first action should always be to write your goals down on paper.
Better known as Think it... Ink it!
You should never leave the sight of a goal without taking action.
If you get in the habit of writing them down, you will capture your thoughts and be able to reference them later. Never trust your memory, especially if you spar a lot :)
Goal Setting is such an essential and powerful tool for success in the Martial Arts and in life.
The Black Belt Success System is a great example of Goal Setting in action. Becoming a Black Belt Champions takes an average of 3 1/2-5 years for those that set their sights on it early. This would certainly be considered a long range goal.
Why I say it is a great example of goal setting in action is because the best way to achieve any long range goal is to break it down into bite sized portions. Meaning you create a series of short range and mid-range goals that lead you toward your long range objectives.
Just like to step by step process of traveling through the belt system. You have a series of short range objectives, the tips and belts, then you have mid range objectives. Moving from a Basic Level to Intermediates and them to Advanced. Until finally you are ready to achieve the coveted Black Belt.
Then, we have the various degrees and new skills attached to the targeted achievement.
For many of us, this is Goal Setting in action, and what a great way to learn and gain valuable experience in the art of achievement. As well as some pretty damn good lessons in the value of hard work and overcoming obstacles.
It's a process that changed my life forever and probably did the same for you as well.
It's been said that a Goal properly set is halfway met.
I hope you'll join me in creating a proper set of goals for the New Year. If we all do our part to grow and improve, to excel and achieve, we will have an even greater impact and positive influence on the hundreds and maybe even thousands of people we know and love.
As you may know, one of my goals is to complete building our headquarters for MAUI.
Martial Arts University International is dedicated to improve the education and motivation of professional Martial Artists worldwide. All training programs and curriculum are modeling the best practices of USA Black Belt Champions, as well as any other innovative and proven methods of success and achievement. Inside and outside of the Martial Arts industry.
We are projected to be complete by April 2008. I have learned through this goal, and many others in the past, that there are no unrealistic goals, but there may be unrealistic timelines.
That has certainly been the case with this facility. Due to many unexpected obstacles, we are over budget and way past our original projected time lines. I don't share this as a gripe, but more of a lesson on goal setting and achievement.
Never allow setbacks and obstacles to get in the way of the excitement and energy that lead you to the goal in the first place. Always keep the goal in mind and the reason for it's attainment must stay bigger than the obstacles.
Any worthwhile goal or achievement is going to have it's share of obstacles and setbacks.
With the cost of commercial real estate in South Florida, this is the single largest investment I have ever made in my very young life. And, it keeps getting bigger by the day.
You know what that means to me?
It increases my reasons for wanting to see this goal through to completion and it motivates me more to make it an even greater success than I originally visualized when I first became involved in the project.
The bigger the goal...the bigger the obstacles you must overcome.
The greater resistance you learn the handle...the stronger you become.
I'll keep you posted on our progress and I hope you'll keep me posted on yours...
Let's be Great in 2008!
Osu,
Kyoshi
