Lavallee's Life Lessons

When hit with Negative - Counter with Positive!

Training in the Martial Arts conditions and prepares us to defend ourselves against dangerous people and threatening situations. Which is great because it better prepares you for how you would respond during an actual assault or attack.

However, one of the greatest dangers we all deal with everyday...isn't so much a physical threat...more common is the risk of a being harmed by someone's negative comments, negative attitudes or negative emotions.

Applying the Yin-Yang approach to defending against negative forces would tell us to always be ready to counter with positives.

Applying this in a physical attack, one method of defense is to do the exact opposite of your opponent. If they lunge forward in a straight line, you may defend by backing away in a circular direction. If they strike high, you may defend against the attack and counter low.

When it with negative...counter with positive, is the same theory.

Try applying it to daily life where we may be attacked verbally or assaulted emotionally.

If someone makes a negative comment about someone you know and care about, you may redirect them with a positive comment.

Maybe someone shares a negative rumor that an acquaintance is spreading, ignore the rumor and share something positive instead. Maybe someone you know becomes very negative and reactive, your goal would be to stay calm, positive and proactive.

Self-Defense is about defending yourself, not about harming the attacker.

Think of the same concept in dealing with negative people or situations. The goal is to avoid harm...not cause it. Practice this theory and you'll see yourself staying calmer and increasingly better at keeping a positive outlook and attitude toward everything and everybody.

TRAINING DRILL: Think of someone you know that has a tendency to be negative. Think in advance and practice various ways you may be able to counter their negative with positive. It is said that the person that is the most committed emotionally is likely to have the greatest impact.

I hope you've had a great week and that your training was better than ever. Just got done hosting Warriors Weekend #8 in Ft. Lauderdale and it was an awesome gathering of high level Masters of the Martial Arts.

It began with some fantastic Mixed Martial Arts training with Shihan Gene Dunn and Professor Brian Glick. We have been working together to put together a cutting edge Mixed Martial Arts curriculum and it's ready to roll out. The response has been great!

For me, it's always a blast to train, even more so when the training is with such high caliber and everyone has such fantastic attitudes as well. Having the opportunity to spend a few days with over one hundred such people is truly and honor and privilege. I need to pinch myself to make sure that I am awake :)

Another special treat was the coaching and guidance on meditation from Sifu Robert Brown, author of "Lessons in Mindfulness." One of the foremost authorities on the practice of meditation and the internal aspects of training and how to achieve a harmonious balance in your life.

The combination of Shihan Gene Dunn's hard core MMA training, along with Sifu Brown's lessons in mindfulness, made for an extremely enjoyable weekend of training. Add to that, many inspiring presentations on the business of Martial Arts and Real Estate investment.

I am certainly excited and inspired to accelerate progress and growth in all areas.

Please keep in touch with me on your progress and training. Let's team up to make great things happen this week, March Madness is going to be a record breaker.

Train Hard...Work Hard...Enjoy the Rewards of your Success!

Osu,
Kyoshi
