The Shoerack Theory

It has long been a custom in the Martial Arts, that upon entering the dojo, you remove your shoes and place them in the shoe rack. Part of this custom is for hygiene and cleanliness.

A clean dojo and well kept dojo is certainly better than a dirty and dingy one.

An even better philosophy is the Shoe rack Theory.

Simply meaning that students remove their shoes and place them in the shoe rack, at the same time, they are also placing all of their challenges and stressful thoughts or negative issues in their shoes before entering the mat.

The belief being that this allows you to give yourself fully to your training and after a great class, you will be able to better deal with the challenges you placed in your shoes.

Sometimes, you may find that they have disappeared all together. Meaning that after a great workout and practice session, you have relieved yourself of all the stress you had before your class.

Martial Arts training is proven to be an outstanding way to relieve stress and cleanse your mind, body and spirit of any and all negativity.

If you practice this philosophy everytime you enter the dojo, you will find yourself in a better mood and you will also enjoy greater benefit from each class.

This is a philosophy that can even be applied to walking into your own home. Mentally, leaving all stress and challenges in your shoes so you can enjoy quality time with your family and loved ones.

One way you can maximize the benefits of your Martial Arts training is to practice the philosophies you learn in your everyday life outside the dojo.  

 
Are you feeding your machine the right fuel?

What machine am I referring to? YOU!

You are the most important asset you will ever have.

The better you feel and think, the better you will behave and perform.

Everyone that you have influence over, benefits when you are ON your game.

So, what is the right fuel for you?

I'm not sure, but I would encourage you to find out. For me, it's five meals a day of good quality carbs and protein. It's about 5-6 hours of sleep each night, along with a daily power nap. It's training daily and keeping myself in great shape, along with feeling progress in my Martial Arts journey.

It's finding something to laugh at and about everyday, several times a day.

They say if you laugh from your gut, you won't ache from your belly.

What's the right fuel for your mind? Is it audio learning, reading or DVD's?

Maybe a little bit of all of the above.

For me, it's all of the above in a pretty aggressive intake.

My point is this, if you feed your machine the right stuff everyday and you work it the way it should be worked, your machine, YOU will perform at peak levels and your best is yet to come.

What's the right fuel for your heart?

Besides regular cardio exercise, mine needs to love and feel loved.

It also needs to feel passion and enthusiasm for what I do and the people I influence.

These are some of the things that I feed my machine everyday to maximize performance.

Everyone is different. What works for some people, may not be 100% right for the next.

My encouragement is to look at yourself as a human experiment and keep searching for the right combination and the right fuel for your machine to operate at maximum capacity.
