Lavallee's Life Lessons

Resistance makes us Stronger!

Motivational Speaker and Best Selling Author, Zig Ziglar, teaches that we should always be grateful for our problems.

The reality is, the problems and challenges we face everyday, makes us stronger.

If everything in life came easy, everyone would be an instant success at everything they do.

Most of our truly meaningful achievements in life, are measured by the amount of obstacles you had to overcome to attain them.

Becoming a Black Belt, for most people, is certainly a meaningful achievement. For me, at the time I achieved it, it was absolutely the toughest thing I had ever done. It also proved to be the most impacting and influential on the rest of my life.

In the real world, people that are able to solve the most complex problems, are worth the most value in society. In the Martial Arts dojo, in school, at work, we usually learn the most from the setbacks and challenges that we overcome.

The athlete that takes the easy route, by partying all night and skipping practices, is not likely to be stepping onto the winner's podium. It's the Champion that puts in the hours of disciplined practice and has overcome the obstacles that wins Gold Medals.

Pressure Creates Diamonds...

We all need resistance to become stronger. When it comes to physical strength and conditioning, we need to do push ups, pull ups, lift weights or train with some form of resistance to become stronger and stronger everyday.

A lack of resistance can lead to becoming weaker and losing our competitive edge. Everyone needs resistance to become stronger.

Many of our greatest Black Belt Leaders, had to overcome many obstacles and deal with a lot of resistance to get where they are today. Master KC LaVallee, when she first began her Martial Arts training, was training in an era that was only about 5% female and 95% male involvement.

That didn't discourage her, if anything, it motivated her to prove that women could be a powerful force in the dojo and the entire field of Martial Arts .

She also had to overcome asthma, allergies and a heart condition called mitral valve prolapse. She overcame all odds and became our first ever female Black Belt, and has gone on the become a highly respected and recognized leader and Master Instructor in the Martial Arts.

It's all in the attitude....

Some may say that KC has an attitude, and they would be right, she has a great attitude and outlook on life. It's an attitude well worth catching, and many have.

Master KC has a Black Belt Champion's Attitude of Excellence.

Resistance has made her stronger than she would have ever been without it.

If she can do it…you can too!

How about that George St. Pierre?!?

He absolutely dominated Matt Serra in their rematch bout for the UFC Middleweight Title last Saturday night. Another story of resistance making someone stronger.

In their first bout, nobody would have ever guessed that Matt Serra would have KO'd George St. Pierre. Nobody except Serra and his camp. I truly believe that fight was good for GSP.

It probably taught him more than any victory ever could. It forced him to buckle down and get his act together. To tighten up his training habits and get focused on the goal. Well, he did and he is back on top of the world...impressive as ever!!

Our World Headquarters is making progress...

We have solved the challenges with the foundation, are overcoming a serious issue with the E.P.A. and making great progress toward our completion date this summer.

Another case of resistance making us stronger. The obstacles we encountered with this building, has brought us to creating a building that will survive a hurricane of the worst category. (Hopefully, we will never test it's true capacity :)

It's is being built with a comparable strength to a bomb shelter or bank vault. Again, I really don't care to ever test it's true capacity, it's just a good comparison for this weeks message.

I hope your training is going well and that April was a good month for you.

Only a few days left and then it's time to dedicate May to Mother's Appreciation Month.

Each of our dojo's will be holding a series of event in honor of our Mom's. They range from special fitness classes, personal safety seminars, essay contests to Mom's Night Out.

With the simple objective of honoring and paying tribute to our Karate Mom's. If you have any other special ways we can celebrate or honor our Mom's, please drop me a note.

In the meantime, let's continue to...

Train Hard, Work Hard and Enjoy the Rewards of Success!

Osu,
Kyoshi
