Tie Gun, which translates literally "Iron Stick" is the melding of modern metallurgic technology with ancient studies in short stick fighting from several Kung Fu styles, and from other Martial Art systems including Escrima, Arnis, and Joong Bong to name a few. The Tie Gun, by its very nature and mechanical utility presented me with an opportunity to share a systemic Art form which I believe my Master would have thought highly of, for it was his belief and teaching that not only did ever Martial Art have something to give and learn from, but that the Arts left a panoply of areas of growth and development consistent with the ever changing need for a viable knowledge in self-defense. Over the past Twenty years I have experimented with and studied numerous manual non-projectile weapons searching for that one seemingly endlessly elusive weapon which would be functional and practical to carry, yet not take years of study to be able to use efficiently as a self-defense weapon. The steel telescoping baton, which I have integrated into the Lian Shi System as Tie Gun is that weapon. Only nine inches long in the closed position and weighing less than a pound, it snaps to a length of Twenty-six inches with a flip of the wrist as a blocking and striking weapon capable of breaking an attackers arm and disabling him in the blink of an eye. To my Master, Grandmaster Huang Long, I dedicate this study.
